Benji's Second Chance Came with a Surprise

We thought Benji just needed a little extra TLC. Turns out, he had other plans.

This sweet senior came to us from a shelter in southwest Wyoming after struggling with an upper respiratory infection and difficulty gaining weight. We expected some antibiotics, good food, and a little time to recover.

But just two days after arriving, Benji was drinking enormous amounts of water and flooding his litter box.

Bloodwork confirmed what we suspected: Benji has diabetes.

Now, instead of a relatively simple recovery, Benji needs ongoing medication, blood glucose monitoring, dietary management, and specialized veterinary care.

We didn't anticipate these expenses when we agreed to take him in, but that's the reality of rescuing senior and special-needs cats. Sometimes the cats who seem like easy cases turn out to need the most help.

Benji deserves to feel better, regardless of what it costs to get him there.
