Help Heal Silas: A Second Chance for a Gentle Giant

Meet Silas ❤️

Silas recently came into Kentucky Great Dane Rescue, and while we don't know much about his past, it's clear he hasn't had an easy journey.

At 4 years and 9 months old, Silas is estimated to be 30-40 pounds underweight. His ribs, spine and hip bones are visible, his skin is irritated and in poor condition and he's dealing with a painful "happy tail" that continually reopens every time his tail wags. He also has skin tags on his belly that will need veterinary attention.

What amazes us most isn't what Silas has been through. It's who he is despite it.

Even after everything, Silas is a loving, gentle giant who simply wants to be close to people. He enjoys adults and children, is doing well with other animals and is settling into foster care in Louisville, KY. While he hasn't had much formal training, he's already showing us that he's eager to learn and just wants a chance to belong.

As Silas begins this new chapter, he has a long list of medical needs ahead of him. He will need:

• All of his vaccinations
• Heartworm and parasite testing
• Treatment for his skin issues
• Continued care for his happy tail
• High-quality food and supplements to help him safely regain weight
• Be neutered and have a gastropexy to help prevent bloat
• He'll also need a few extra comforts along the way, including sweaters to help keep him warm while he gains back the weight.

We're hoping to raise $2,000 to cover Silas' medical care and recovery.
